Oral Allergy Syndrome

I was wondering if anyone else has this?
Mine seems to be linked to birch pollen, and possibly grass.

How worth it would it be to get the official testing done?
Largely because I seem to be one of the "lucky" ones in the >2% that actually have anaphylactic reactions... so wondering if it wouldn't be smart to get an epi pen.

What are your thoughts.

If you are having anaphylactic reactions, then YES- you definitely need to get an epipen!! You might not even have to have testing done- talk to your doc or an allergist and see what they say.

DH has OAS. He won't be bothered to see how the different foods/pollens are connected, so he just doesn't eat ANY fresh fruits or vegetables. Sometimes, he can get away with a slice of mango or peach when we're travelnig, or some iceburg lettuce. But, other than that, he just eats things if they're cooked.

His throat itches, he gets nauseated...he doesn't carry an Epi-pen, but our son does...

I have it. My throat gets really itchy and seems to swell a little but not enough to panic. So far anyway.

I don't know what mine is related to but I have problems with apples and almonds the most.

I thought it was just random allergies, till I had my son in to an allergist and he wanted to know what DH and I were allergic too.... He found my list very interesting and told me alot about it, but I haven't actually gotten tested....
Many fruits bother my skin if I have a scratch and am cutting stuff up for the kids... sometimes there doesn't even need to be a scratch.

Yes, DH has problems preparing some raw foods. They make his hands itch or give him a rash.

I posted asking about my symptoms here on MDC. That's how I found out about OAS. I love MDC! I never would have figured out what I had if not for the wise people here!

Eh, I'm not so sure we're wise. I think we're a bunch of people who have had a lot of weird things happen to them, and we come to this place because other places don't have answers for us.

But, yeah, I do find out things here that turn out to be true for me, and it keeps me coming back.

(Started with garlic for yeast infections...and I've never looked back! )
