Leaking at the legs

I don't know what to do anymore. Ds seems to have at LEAST 2 leaks a day, right at the thighs. Happens with Happy Heiny One Size diapers, fitteds with a pro-rap cover/thirsties cover/assorted pull on covers, flats in afore mentioned covers.

I'm going crazy. This isn't saving me money if I have to do a ton more laundry. Also, the insert can be full or just half full when this happens. And it wicks right at the thighs, between his legs. His thighs are skinny. Maybe that's it? It seems to happen right at the gusset area. The cotton overlining seems to wick it right onto the rest of the cover.

How do I solve this problem? Smaller covers? His thighs fit nicely into a small nylon pull-on, but he needs more room in the rise to contain his diaper.

If it helps, ds is 2.

Hi Ami,

Sounds frustrating. It sounds like a fit issue, based on the fact that you say he has skinny legs and it always leaks in the same area. You'd probably do really well with wool pull on covers. Have you ever considered that? If you sew or knit, you can make them yourself and they aren't too expensive that way.

Smaller covers may help, as long as they aren't too small. My ds1 is 2.5 yrs old and 28 lbs. According to Thirsties weight range, he should fit in a Thirsties Large now, but I find he fits better and leaks less still in the medium. A while ago, he was at like 26 or 27 lbs, and I thought, oh - he's close enough to the large, that should work well enough. But we were getting somewhat frequent leaks. I finally tried a medium on him and it is really much better. Anyway, so I guess it depends on the brand and your baby, but that could help.

Have you tried dappi pull ons? Also with your one sized cover could you snap down further on the outer snaps to get tighter around the legs? I always find onesies to ride up the cover and cause leaks, are you having leaks with normal clothing too?

Christina, I'm getting a pair of small thirsties to try them out. I have one pair of wool longies. They are wonderful. I guess I need to just make more wool. It is annoying to not have a wrap cover fit though. He used to be such a chunker too!

Melissa, I only have the bigger sized dappi pull ons from when he was a chunk. I didn't start CD until ds was 6mos old. I have some no name brand pull ons. I'd put him in the newborns/smalls and while his thighs would fit, I wouldn't have enough rise or enough space for all the stuffing.

He's wearing regular clothes. Pants, t-shirts, etc. No onesies. He's so tall and skinny that overalls fit better, but I hate going through half of them in one day. Not to mention the wet spots on the carpet, chairs, couch, and me!

Are there any good covers for small thighs? Other than wool? Or should I just make a ton of wool pants and call it a day?
