just have to share...something wonderful!

My child just put herself to sleep without nursing. I think. I'm still in total shock, but I had to share.

She's 20 months and has almost never slept without nursing, has always woken every 2-3 hours all night long. I've been losing it lately and have tried a couple of times to nightwean, unsuccessfully. But I think in the last week I must have hit a window for nightweaning or something, because all of a sudden it wasn't hard. I haven't even tried to go all night without nursing yet, but last night she went from 7:00 pm to 2:30 am without nursing--longest she's ever gone in her life! She woke up three times, but every time I told her she could go back to sleep without milk, and...she did. !!!

And then tonight she was nursing, and then she unlatched and wanted to switch sides again, which I didn't really want to, but before I could even decide whether to switch or not, she just rolled over and went to sleep. All by herself. I moved away and she didn't stir, although I know she wasn't asleep yet. And then I left her in bed--sleepy but awake!!!--and she went right to sleep!!!!!

She has NEVER gone to sleep without me there!!!! I can hardly believe it!

I am not expecting her to sleep all night now, but we are definitely moving in that direction. This is so wonderful; I haven't had more than four consecutive hours of sleep in almost two years. Just the thought of longer sleep makes me so happy.

Oh, and we're still cosleeping, but she has her own mattress now, on the floor right next to our mattress which is also on the floor. Last night I actually kind of missed cuddling up with her all night, but it is SO worth it if I get to SLEEP!!!!!!!!

Sometimes it seems like these stages last forever and then you realize that they have to stop sometime! Congrats on the sleep!
