I keep a spray bottle of vinegar cleaning solution that is 50-50 vinegar and water. Sometimes, it's just not enough to cut through some grime (for example around the stove top). I could have an additional spray bottle that is 100% vinegar, I suppose, but I hate having lots of bottles of cleaning solutions. I'm wondering if there would be a problem upping the ratio to 2:1 vinegar to water for my all-purpose solution. Is there anything that this higher concentration of vinegar would damage in a house? What about simply adding some small pieces of lemon to the solution? (I've never tried it, but recently thought of it.) TIA!

I use straight vinegar in a spray bottle to clean around the kitchen (and bathroom, too). I usually use a wet/damp sponge or cloth so that might dilute it a bit. For grubby, cooked-on grime on the stovetop (we have the smooth top) I spray and saturate w/vinegar and then sprinkle with a little baking soda, watch all the bubbles (lol) and then scrub. The baking soda gives a little abrasion, but doesn't scratch. Voila.... no more grime. (OT - for really burned on crud on the cooktop that does not come off this way I use bar keepers friend.)

Straight vinegar is perfectly safe. Compare that to all of the toxic nastys in regular chemical cleaners!
Another thing you might try for germ killing is hydrogen peroxide. Using them together is supposed to kill germs and eve viruses better than chlorine bleach.
You don't need to go toxic to get things clean and germ free.

I use straight vinegar in a spray bottle in the kitchen, works GREAT on the stove, boy does that stuff cut through grease!
One thing I want to ask people, I've been using it in the bathroom too...how much does it disinfect? Maybe somebody has a link or something? |

I have a bottle of 50/50 water/vinegar and I agree, it doesn't cut through everything. I started using that mostly for windows, chrome, and glass and now I also have a mixture of 1/4 cup Dr. Bronner's to 12 oz water and that stuff cleans amazingly well! So now I have two spray bottles but that's it.
