Hello,
Our twin boys were born 4 weeks ago at 32.5 weeks' gestation (HELLP Syndrome). They came home from the hospital four days ago. I have been pumping and have a crazy-good supply, plus a freezer full of EMB. Good news.
The NICU discharged us with directions to add NeoSure (a type or preterm infant formula, it's a powder) to my breastmilk to increase its caloric content. They also told us to give Poly-Vi-Sol with Iron vitamins once a day.
Unfortunately, since we've been home, I've noticed a lot more gastric "fussiness" associated with BMs. Not really constipation, but discomfort and straining.
In truth, I would like to move to EMB, tandem-feeding, etc. But I don't want to put two little boys at any risk.
Anyone have any experience with the push for multivitamins in preterm or newborn infants? What about fortifying your own breastmilk? How crazy is it to consider discontinuing both and just nursing them??
TIA for any thoughts. -- Ginny
