Actually, he's been here for awhile. He's almost two weeks old! He was born at 38+5.
My labor and delivery were fast and intense. I had had mild contractions every 5-10 minutes all day on Friday no matter what I did and thought for sure I would have him that weekend. But then they stopped overnight and I barely had any on Saturday and Sunday. I was disappointed and started thinking that it would be weeks before he was born! Then Sunday night I felt some cramping, and when I got out of bed to go to the bathroom, my water broke! I was shocked. I absolutely did not think that my water would break that early. The contractions were intense right away, also not what I was expecting. We called our doula and went to the hospital. After a total of 4 hours of laboring and 30 minutes of pushing, our little guy was born! It was a successful drug-free VBAC! I don't think I've ever felt so proud and empowered before. Everyone at the hospital was great. No one batted an eye at the VBACing or the natural birth.
If there are any first time moms or VBACing moms from later DDCs reading this, I highly highly highly recommend hiring a doula! Mine was absolutely amazing and I would have been lost without her. I really credit her with my success.
I am just beyond thrilled to have a healthy, happy little boy in my arms, and I can't believe that on top of that I had the birth I had been hoping and preparing for for so long! I feel so lucky.
