Scooping Snow & Babywearing

Does anyone scoop snow while babywearing? If so with what sling and position? We haven't had any snow yet, but I want to be prepared. I'm a single mom and I'm not sure how I'm going to get my sidewalk scooped with a 6 month old who wants me at 5:30 in the morning.

I was raking the other day with my 5 month old in the Moby wrap. Difficult and slow, but doable! As for shoveling snow, when my 4 year old was little, if the snow was heavy, I would put her in the exersaucer by the front door where I could see her from the driveway. If the snow was light, I would think you could do a Moby wrap maybe.

I definitely don't think I could do it with a front carry but with a back carry it would be doable.

I rake our yard with my baby on my back in a wrap with no problem. I use woven wraps and I put her in a rucksack carry. It's nice and comfy and I can do pretty much any bending and lifting I need to.

I second the back carry in a wrap idea. I've done lots of gardening and shoveling dirt that way, anyway.

a back carry in pretty much anything will work. baby at that age might prefer a high-back carry in a wrap or a mei tai so she can see over your shoulder, though you might find more support with her lower.

of course i'm always a chunei cheerleader, but i particularly love them for chores because the baby's weight doesn't rest on your shoulders, therefore you don't jostle the baby when you move. less jostling = happier baby and also your movement isn't restricted the way it can be with weight-bearing shoulder straps.

if it's cold as well as snowy you might also want to consider a babywearing vest or jacket or a fleece cover for the carrier to make sure baby is sufficiently warm while you work.

I've done this with a baby in a sling but we have this type of snow shovel that pushes the snow. It wasn't the most efficient way to do it. The best way, for me, was to put the baby in the high chair inside the house and leave the glass storm door closed and interior door open. Put a little snack on the tray and baby was happy to watch the show.
