Pep talk me please!

We made the switch this weekend to cloth, and I'm feeling frustrated and a little defeated. I'm sure much of it is because I'm overwhelmed trying to switch three kids at the same time!

We're using prefolds with Thirsties Duo covers. I am doing great with my newborn. She had one poo yesterday that blew out on to the cover a tiny bit, but otherwise has been a breeze to do. (Other than the fact that I'm still slow at folding the prefold, and she'll end up poo'ing again before I can even get the first diaper on!)

But my toddlers! Ugh! They're impossible! I did okay with my 2yo, but my 1yo is in that wiggly, kicking, obnoxious phase, and I cannot get the prefold on tight enough, and he had a major blowout every.single.time.

Please tell me that this gets better! I really NEED to love this. (We'll go bankrupt with 3 kids in diapers, otherwise!) I've slowed down to just switching one kid at a time over. Today, it's just been my newborn, then later this week, I'll transition my 2yo, and the 1yo...well....he may be in disposables forever!!

Any tips or tricks for getting a secure fit using a prefold? Any useful routine tips? It sort of felt like I was changing diapers all day yesterday.

Thanks!!

What are you using to fasten the PF? Snappi? Pins? I've heard that pins can get you a tighter fit than a Snappi.

With my one year old I just trifold the prefold in a cover. When he poops it does usually get on the cover but rarely gets out of the cover. Trifolding is the fastest for us & so diaper changes are not so disruptive for him.

I agree with both PP. I tend to be a snappi girl, myself, because it's faster for me.

If you decide to trifold for your 1 y.o., you may need more covers for him. When you said he had blow-outs, did the poo get on the clothes or just the cover? I say, if it gets on the cover, that's ok, that means it did its job. Just get a couple extra to save yourself the stress of having to wash as often.

Trifolding has never been a great option for me, even for my 2.5 y.o. He's always had poo that is not super solid. We do well with a jelly roll fold, snappied.

I have 2 in diapers, a 19 month old and a 5 month old. We use fitteds and prefolds, I think working on the newborn first and then moving onto the older ones is key. I could NEVER have started with prefolds on my older son, but once I got good at it with the baby it was much easier on the toddler. You can definitely do it!!
