Neither one can be used FFO (forward facing out). The Pikkolo plus support belt can be used for a heavier baby in the FFO position, but honestly, it's not forever -- even with a great carrier like the Pikkolo, the FFO position just gets to be too uncomfy for the parent because baby's head and limbs are dragging forwards towards the earth. Getting baby used to back carries is the best way to go.
A really good hip carrier like the Scootababy allows baby lots of freedom to see around, but it's not quite as hands-free in that the strap sits on one shoulder and impedes freedom of movement in that arm, and the other arm tends to curve around baby. It's a fantastic carrier, but it won't allow you the hands-free ability to do as many things as a two-shoulder carrier will.

Go for the back carries!! I have so much more freedom with my little guy on my back, and it has extended our babywearing time by a lot, as he's much too heavy to wear on my front now (he's 18 mos, 24 lbs). It's is so worth it to learn how to do them, and really not so hard to do. My little guy just peeks over my shoulder and I narrate to him as we go along.

Back carries are where its at! I like using a wrap, so I can put my little guy high enough up that he can see up over my shoulder. He is also happy in the Ergo on my back (he's 19mths now), but really preferred being wrapped when he was smaller. I guess now that he is taller he has a better view in the Ergo where at first he still couldn't see what I was up to.
If the Moby is starting to not feel supportive enough as your LO gets heavier, you may want to try a woven wrap.
