Newborn heavy wetter?

I have a 3 week old and just started using cloth diapers this past week. The first 3 diapers I put on her she wet through! They were AIO diapers made by a WAHM. Today I tried them on her again and we took a nap and ended up sleeping about 2 hours and woke up and she had wet through the diaper and through her sleeper. I had just put the diaper on her before we fell asleep too.
I know you have to change Cloth dipes more often than sposies but shouldnt they be lasting longer than 2 hours? Do I need to use a doubler and if so which one do you recommend? I do have some GMD Prefolds and Thirsties covers that I am supplementing the AIOs with but they seem so bulky on her when I put those on her. However she did poop in a Prefold and cover the other day and it did leak out of the prefold and into the cover but the cover did not leak! And it was very runny Breast milk poo.

That does't seem too outrageous to me. Every baby is different, obviously, but mine was peeing super frequently at that point.

Do you know what material the dipes are and how many layers? Maybe there's just not enough absorbancy in there. For doulbers, you could use a newborn/premie prefold, or a washcloth. We are still using our bamboo wipes as doublers instead of wipes. So there are lots of options. For my older son, I use hemp, but I'm still happy with my little wipes doublers right now.

For the record, I am totally loving my prefolds with my little guy right now. They are dependable and easy!

I was just in the middle of a similar problem. My baby would sleep for so long, being a newborn, that his prefold diaper was totally drenched and sometimes his clothes would be, too. I ended up stuffing a folded up homemade burp rag in the diaper cover when I'd put a prefold on him. I also used some homemade NB fitteds that had more absorbency than the prefolds - they had an extra soaker pad sewn in and were more absorbent. Now that he has outgrown the NB dipes I put him in my one-size fitteds (goodmamas and BSRBs). The increased bulk of his current diapers works great! For me, I just had to get through the NB phase.

I use hemp pf's with a hemp doubler and wool cover on my 7wk old. It's what we've been using for about a month now. It works well and isn't too bulky. Well, for cloth anyway.

Nope, 1-2 hours is normal for a newborn diaper to last. My dd needed to be changed every 1-2 hours, cloth or disposable. Fitteds or prefolds with doublers and a cover usually gives the best protection.
