Sinus/cold meds?

I'm sick. And I'm sick and tired of BEING sick! I haven't been able to take a decent cold medicine in years since I've been bf'ing or pregnant. I'm just miserable. Would some Tylenol Sinus just really screw us up? I'm trying the saline rinse, vit c and d, etc and I have a HORRIBLE headache and congestion. I just want to feel better!!! DD is 25 months if that makes any difference. I just need some relief. Help! Thanks!

Of course you can take something to get relief! Though, for congestion, I've had much better luck with taking something like pseudoephedrine (Sudafed), and for headache I usually take ibuprofen.
You're not pregnant, right? Only nursing?
Feel better, mama!!!

Will the sudafed mess up my supply? This is my third babe and I've never had a supply issue. Not pregnant, just nursing! Thanks!

How old is your babe? If your babe is older, and this is your third child, then taking a dose or two of a cold medicine is very unlikely to mess with supply.

I would say you're fine to take something. It would be good if you also increased your liquid intake, both for supply and to help with discomfort/recovery from the sinus stuff.

I was very sick this summer and did a combo of ibuprofen as needed and sudafed at night (so I could sleep) for 4-5 days. I was so sick and not getting rest was inhibiting my ability to get better. I was tandem and had been nursing for 3+ years. It did end up lowering my supply BUT I got better and had no problem increasing my supply again by nursing on demand and adding oatmeal and extra fluids.

I don't think a dose or two to clear your head is going to harm your supply. How old is your nursling? That's a good question, I hadn't thought about that. Not that I would be against taking something if you're really THAT miserable, but if your LO was only a week old or something I might try to stick it out if you could. You know?

I've taken sudafed quite a few times over the past year and haven't noticed any problems, just as anecdotal evidence.

I am a migraine and severe allergy sufferer, and could not cope with life unless I take sudafed and antihistamines and aspirin. I have never noticed an effect on DS or supply. (I didn't take meds until about 6 months old, though.) And no, natural therapies do squat for me. I hope you get some relief. If in doubt, maybe talk to a nurse or consult the LLL book.
