How far into pregnancy to babywear?

Well, toddler-wear, actually

DD is 30lbs, 36" tall, 22mos, and all I have is a Moby Wrap. I'm around 8 months pregnant. I'm 5'5", 115lbs pre pregnancy and 135ish- currently.

I have only used a back carry with her, and have found that I get pretty bad pains in my lower back from her kind of resting there. She's pretty heavy.

Anyhow- is it still feasible? are there any other carries that I can use with the moby? please and thank you

You can carry during pregnancy as long as you want to and isn't causing you pain (normal aches and pains aside, but if it's actually *hurting*, stop.)

Um. But with a Moby? Uhhh.....no idea. I've never back carried with a Moby, and would never use it for a child who weighed more than around 20 pounds.

I'd really recommend getting a good toddler carrier, like a solid mei tai or SSC. Or a woven wrap. Then you can use the Moby for the little one, and the other carrier for the older one.

Thanks I thjink I posted awhile ago about wearing two LOs at once.

What is a SSC?

Oh, an SSC is a Soft Structured Carrier. They're the same basic shape as a mei tai, but with buckled waistband and backpack-type straps. Common brands are Ergo and Beco, and then there's the smaller companies (work-at-home-moms) like BlooKangaroo, Olives & Applesauce, that kind of thing. Both those brands make toddler-size ones as well, which I really prefer, and have been using with my baby since he was 7 months. But he's kind of a big kid.

Thanks

What about a "toddler"hawk?

Hi! I'm due in December too, and I'm close to your size. I agree with pp's uncertainty about the Moby. I think you need more support and I love woven wraps for that.

My dd is 5, and 35 lbs, and I've pretty much weaned her off of the wrap during this pregnancy, but occasionally there's no one else around and she needs to be carried, and I can do it just fine with a wrap.

But the sag of the moby is going to pull on you and create aches. I hope you can get something else for now, though the Moby should work great for the Dec baby!

Well, DD hasn't much wanted to be worn lately, she thinks she's something awesome and wants to strut around like a "big girl". I do miss wearing her though!

It was weird- the Moby really only created stress on my lower back where she'd push up against it. Everywhere else on me was fine, other than the normal aches and pains of babywearing (which don't bug me too much as they're not really severe and don't happen unless I've been wearing her for a lengthy period of time).

I can't wait for the new baby though, DD used a sling when she was that size, so I'm excited to try out the wrap

Thanks everyone!
