What magazines have you found that help you with your schooling decision. It doesnt matter if its parent based or ideas for the children.

I am new to the world of schooling at home & looking for some decent magazines. BTW I still have a very LO.
Thanks.

I love cobblestone and faces, but I use the library because they aren't in our budget. They also have a great index so you can find the issue on a particular subject.

Here is a link:

Home Education Magazine! You can download HEM's Intro to Homeschooling booklet and and find a form for getting a free sample copy of the magazine mailed to you on this page.

Here's there Getting Started page, and you can click on the Archives button there to read some of their past articles.

Life Learning magazine was a good fit for us getting started. It's an unschooling magazine, also non-coercive, AP-friendly, natural living minded. I haven't had a sub for a couple of years but would consider signing up again. My only complaint was that sometimes I found some articles too over the top on it's criticisms of school.

They still have a website, but I thought they'd stopped publication last year. Anyone know? Is it just that the paper version stopped but an online version is still available? - Lillian

I believe it's now called Natural Life magazine . I could be mistaken but it's got the same layout and everything, it's just more broad and not only related to education.

I love the Secular Homeschooler magazine.
The Natural Life Magazine is great too, but it only has about 2 articles on homeschooling in each issue. The rest is about natural lifestyle.

I asked the same question a while ago here:

I subscribe to Secular Homeschooling Magazine too, and really enjoy it.

I second Cobblestone, and actually ANYTHING that Carrus Publishing puts out. They have a whole range of magazines. I got many of them when I was a kid, and am already introducing the ones for younger kids to my daughter.

Subbing. Subscriptions (to magazine, online services, etc.) are what I want for Christmas!

I am also a fan of Home Ed magazine!!

I've been a subscriber since my oldest was about 4. I just love the perspectives: older kids to teens to kindergarten, secular/non-secular, structured to unschooling; I like how inclusive and dynamic it is. The recipes are eatable! and easy--Christine Gable does a good job with it (great section), there are lots of articles on a wide variety of topics and terrific columns (David Albert! Tamra Orr! Linda Dobson! Becky Rupp! more...), Q and A section, it's been just what I need...support and information right in my mailbox! There's my review

"Subbing" means you are subscribing to this thread so that you will get updates emailed to you, and you'll be able to locate the thread again. Essentially when you reply to a thread, you are "subbing." You can also "Subscribe to this thread" under "Tread Tools."

I hoped that helped a little!

this is my favorite magazine right now - I especially love that there is a good chunk of canadian content - it's been the inspiration for me to wander down this path seriously!
