Chemical-free wood for building play kitchen?

I would really like to build my children a wooden play kitchen for Christmas but am not sure about using wood from the local home improvement store. Aren't those types of wood usually treated with chemicals and such? I'd like to find a source of wood that I can use for our little project. We are trying to give our children toys that are more natural, simple and that build their own imagination - as well as the added fact that they are hand-made with love by their own parents and grandparents.

OK - I may have found something:

I found a local lumber supply store called Gnall Lumber - they told me that they do sell wood that has not been treated (pre-treated) with formaldehyde (yet) and that we can buy it that way and not have it treated. Is there anything else I should ask about or do you think I'm good to go here?

DH, a carpenter said that the wood you buy from the home improvement store or lumber yard is just kiln dried. If it is chemically treated then it will say treated with _____. He says you are good to go.
