Cross your fingers

I ran into a pregnant woman in the baby isle. We sparked up a conversation about different baby products and I gave her my personal opinion as to which product(s) were better/worked for us. She said she had 2 older girls and was pregnant with a boy and it had been awhile since she browsed to baby isle.

We bumped into each other again....she was looking for a kit. She asked me, "Do you know where I can find a kit to care for my son after his circumcision?"

Of course, I wanted to just scream "don't do it!!!!" But I calmly told her, "Please do your research before you chose circumcision. It's really painful and can cause long term problems such as sexual dysfunction...." I told her it's a myth that non-circ'd males contract STD's easier than circ'd males....that there is no medical reason to circ a boy. I pleaded with her to please research before she made a decision and the only website I could think of was MDC to refer her to. (Forgive if this isn't accurate information. I only researched when I was pregnant, before I knew I was having a girl).

She told me she had never researched anything abour circumcision, didn't give it much thought. She said she would research and hopefully come here to MDC before she makes a decision. Keep fingers crossed that that mama works her way here!

(It always feels so good to be able to catch the right person at the right time and inform them about things they may have never given second thought to. I hope her son is saved from the knife).

Good for you! It's hard to overcome social norms, but it sounds like you gave that baby boy a fighting chance, which is more than he would have had if you hadn't spoken up.
