My babe is 5 months, and has always been a great sleeper. From 4 weeks until 4 months, she would go to sleep by herself in her crib at 8 pm, sleep until 3, then come in bed with me until it was time to get up, nursing whenever she wanted during the early morning hours...no fussing or being upset, just leaned over to nurse when she wanted to.
She is waking up a lot earlier the last several weeks (when I come into the room to go to bed, between 10 and 11, no matter how quiet I am...I think she smells me!), which is not a problem...but when I try to put her back into the crib after that 10ish nurse, she often isn't happy. Or, she is waking up every hour after that (like she used to do after her 3 am nursing) except now she doesn't want to nurse when she wakes! She doesn't seem to want anything at all, in fact. If I bring her into bed, she tosses and turns...she turns and burrows against me like she wants to nurse, but will often only take 2 or 3 sips and fuss and turn her head back and forth very quickly, alternating between a quick suck at the breast to sucking on her thumb...sometimes she won't even nurse at all, despite the burrowing into my chest...sometimes she gets mad if she can't find the nipple right away, and then gets mad if I try to guide her mouth to where it needs to be.
She is tossing and turning, kicking, and throwing her arms around a LOT in her sleep, as well. Could this be teething? What can I do to help her? (we have teething tablets, the homeopathic ones, but they don't seem to be doing much good.) It's not the waking that's bothering me, it's that she doesn't seem to be happy or comfortable and I'm not sure how to help her
Although to be honest...I am also getting NO sleep because I spend pretty much the whole night trying to either get her to nurse or soothe her (half asleep, as if I am a zombie.) I literally wake up feeling as if I never really went to sleep.
My husband has been taking her in the very early morning into the living room to sleep, and she goes to sleep on a blanket on the floor and sleeps soundly from 5 or 530 until 8 or 9 (Any idea why she will sleep for him out there but not sleep anywhere near me? Does this mean she should sleep in another room permanently--maybe she sleeps better on her own?)
I am frustrated not knowing what she wants, and what makes it worse is DH is leaving in the morning to go out of town for 3 weeks, and I'm worried about not getting any sleep at all while he's gone...
