I havent had a chance to read around much because I rarely come to the mothering forums and I am sorry if this has been answered before but I need some help. We are military and my children recieved a letter yesterday saying they were going to give the h1n1 mist to students with consent. I denied it. I started wondering since there is the live virus in it and since I am almost POSITIVE, 99% of the students there will be getting it are my children at risk of getting it from those kids on the day they are all getting the mist? tia

oops sorry for my typo of h1 n1 i was NAKING LOL LOL Now i have squirming baby in arms

My understanding is those who receive the Flumist can spread for at least 3 weeks. Have heard the study was stopped at 21 days so who knows it may still shed for over those 3 weeks.

ty! I am curious if anyone knows what I should do with my kids when they do this at their school? I dont think they would let me keep them out that long. I am sure that they are assuming most parents will let them do the mist so they dont care. I need some solid facts on the mist though and there doesnt seem to be much.

I would keep them out for at least the first week. Really, it's hard to say if it would help b/c of all the other public places you might go to. I hate going anywhere and wish people would wear a tshirt that says they were vaxed w/the mist, LOL. I'm nervous about church, the store, everywhere. I don't even think the dr's offices tell people to stay home. I guess they don't really care if it gets people sick?

I was worried about this. They had a clinic today and did the shot and mist. It was open to kids at Evan's school, but not at his school at least. He's already sick for the 2nd time in 2 wks, though he already had the flu of some sort earlier, getting sick again is the LAST thing he needs. Poor guy.
