Homeschooling in Marin?

We are homeschoolers in Colorado, but we will be taking a 5 week road trip out to California in December/January. We will be staying in Marin County (San Rafael), where I grew up. The idea is to give it a practice run and see if we would want to pursue moving there. I'd like to see about meeting up with other homeschoolers in the area to get an idea of what kind of community is there. Does anyone know anything about this area or any idea where I should start? I checked out the Marin Homeschoolers webpage, but you have to pay to join the group, and I didn't know if it would be worth it for just 5 weeks.

Also, if anyone has any ideas of fun stuff to do while we are there, I'd appreciate that as well. I have a 7yr old boy and a 5.5 year old girl.

Hi! I'm a Meetup organizer for Marin homeschoolers, and I'd love to invite you to join our group- there is no cost to join and you can get a good feel for our community. We have park days every Thursday that are well attended, as well, and recently there have been almost weekly field trips. Take a look, and I'd love to talk to you some more!

Thanks so much for your response! I signed up on the meetup site, and I would love to attend park days and field trips while we are there. It sounds like a pretty active group. Are most of the activities in Marin, or do you go to the city a lot? We will be coming out right before Christmas and staying through January, so would it be correct to assume that activity will slow down a bit during the holidays?

Just making sure that you joined the meetup that I sent the link to, (if you wanted) as there is another homeschooling group that is more faith-based, also on Meetup, also active, but I'm not over there (definitely confusing)... Marin Homeschoolers is all inclusive- with both groups, you'll meet families, so I'd say it's your preference. Most of the official activities are currently happening in Marin, but families often get together and go to the City (mine does at least once a week)... I think January will probably be full of activities. I have a 7 year old boy, too- and i'd love to get together. Take care!
