It sounds like you've put a lot of energy into exploring all your options with this dog. I'm so sorry that you've had to reach this point but it really is the only thing you can do.

It's heartbreaking though.

I'm so sorry. You have done the best you could and this is an act of love on your part.

It's such an imperfect world. I wish we could all just be living outdoors in warm, sunny weather amongst the animals having no fear of us. And without disease or death. That's the way it was meant to be...and I believe it will be someday. Right now we're in a fallen world and, try as we might, humans can't fix everything.

Take care of yourself.

By no less then a miracle, I had a couple contact me who wanted him. Last winter I had travel for therapy for one of my children, I was gone off and gone for months, DH stayed behind. He would come up on the weekends sometimes and a friend of his took our dog while he was gone. It turns out that the friend had brought our dog to her mother's house a few times. She loved him, and heard that we had decided to put him down, she contacted us and asked if she could have him.

She had full disclosure of all his problems, she has two other daschunds, one sounds even more neurotic then mine. That dog also has aggression problems with children so the animals are never around children. They are an older couple who dotes on their dogs, work from home, and have spent many years taking in problem dogs. We have an agreement that if they can no longer care for him that we will be notified, I would choose to euthanize him at that point because I believe this is probably the only house that he could live in safely. We can see him when we like and Dh works with this friend so we will be able to hear how things are going. Dobbie went over there yesterday morning, and appears to be doing well so far. I miss him very much, while I am glad that seems that he may have a safe home for now, I was prepared to do what was necessary. Thank you everyone for all your kind words of wisdom.

That is so great! What a hard thing to have to deal with, and what a great thing to come through as a surprise!
