We just had ds's (5) hearing tested, and sure enough, he has a hearing impairment in his right ear. It's not major, we don't know the cause yet, or if anything will need to be done, but at least our suspicions are confirmed. I'm frustrated, though, because since birth we have asked several peds whether we should have his hearing tested, and they all said no, wait until he's 5, so we did, cuz quite frankly we always like to default to less intervention in general. But dh is deaf in one ear and partially hearing impaired in the other, and the audiologist told us that kids of hearing impaired parents are always tested in infancy and then regularly after that. So now we have no baseline and no clue as to causation, and I have no one to yell at so I'm venting.
Now we have to get more testing and an ENT exam and we'll see where it all goes. It really isn't major and I'm not TOO worried about it (as health issues go, this is a really minor one). Just wanna smack a doc or 2 upside the head!
