We need to get a full size mattress for ds1 and ds2, they will share a bed until they get bigger. Would love to get an organic mattress but just cannot afford one. So looking for something affordable but not cheap as I would like it to last a long long time. Costco online has a $100 off coupon for a Sealy Posturepedic Waterbrook mattress set, any size, making the full size $550.00 after coupon. I have no idea if that's a good mattress or a good price. Any recs.?

Also would like to get a really good mattress protector to keep the mattress clean from dust/mites, keep it from getting ruined/stained from little ones peeing the bed, and that is natural since the mattress won't be.

Lastly we all could use new pillows, does anyone use pillow covers? Ones you put over the pillow then put the pillow case over it. I like down pillows and figure if we are getting new ones we might as well protect them as we would a mattress, kwim?

Just keep in mind those mattress chemicals from Costco will enter your childrens bodies and become part of their chemical load. If you have a daughter those same chemicals will be present in your grandchildrens bodies before they are born and will be fed to them in breast milk. I cannot stress how important it is to NOT buy a new toxic mattress at any cost. Save up, find another way, ask for discounts from people who sell organic. Whatever it takes. I know this is horrible to think about but it is true and sad....

Any research, studies, etc. to back this up? I've never heard of it.

To the OP: We have a fabulous mattress cover that is also waterproof. We got it on clearance and I have no idea the brand. I, too, use down pillows and the pillow covers we have are from Marshalls/TJ Maxx, I think.
As for mattress prices, that price seems average. GL!
