Quick Question: Seasoning for Lentils?

I am making a pot of lentils for dinner. I sauteed onions and red/yellow peppers in a little olive oil, added the lentils, and am now simmering in some water.

We've had curry the past two nights -- what other flavorings or spices might be good to add to the pot?

Thank you so much!!

My favorite lentils are Honeybaked lentils - so seasonings would be honey (or agave or maple syrup), tamari, olive oil, ginger, garlic and s&p - pretty basic, but sooo delicious!

I will say that my first dish with lentils did not go over so well. I was really counting on this to be a staple in my cooking. I am curious to see other seasoning ideas.

I've found lentils do well with any seasoning really...just depends on the dish you wanting.

ourday what did you try making? I've noticed certain meals have a bit of a learning curve but once you get the hang of them they are easy as pie! I use lentils a lot. DH has asked me to stop using them so much.

you could do some italian seasonings if you want a big switch from curryish stuff. like basil, thyme, oregano...salt and pepper.

I sautee onions too...add to the lentils with cumin, and either paprika or chili powder to taste. My dad puts ketchup and weird stuff like that in them (he's from Ecuador, and ate a LOT of lentils growing up!)

Thank you! One way I had been preparing them was to simmer them with water, 8oz can of tomato sauce, and taco seasoning to taste (or 1 tsp. each: cumin, garlic salt, paprika, onion powder, and a pinch of cayenne pepper). I found the recipe on VegWeb and it has been a hit with both my husband and daughter. She scarfed her portion

I really love french green lentils cooked simple with some whole garlic, salt and a bay leaf. Then I saute onions, celery, carrot and peppers and fresh thyme, add the lentils and a simple vinaigrette and serve over tender salad greens and simple rice

I cook the onion (brown it slowly) and garlic separately, with plenty of oil. And I stir those into the lentils after the lentils cook. It flavors them really well. Thyme tastes good with lentils, as does rosemary.
