night leaks, aristocrat wool cover

Hi:
My ds is 6 months old. I use paper diapers (sorry i just hate hate hate laundry)
anyway, the paper diapers now are leaking.....if he would sleep more that 2 hours w/o nursing we would not have this problem. gggrrrrr.

So i went up a size in the paper diapers and now put the wool cover over it. He still is leaking. Its when he side nurses, thats when it leaks, like out the side.
so 2 questions: first, i just washed the cover, it did leak sometimes before this, but now it seems to leak more, did i wash it wrong? I used hot water with lanoline soap, and didn't rinse, and let air dry.
2nd, it there a better option for a cover. I still want to use the paper diaper under, but if i could find an absorbent-ish cover that is breathable, thats not sooo big. I can barely get his pj's on over the wool one!

Any ideas? Thanks.

Why don't you try a different brand of disposable diapers? That could help. It just does not sound as if you are getting as snug a fit as you need.

I would lanolize again. Aristocrats are the gold standard in wool covers as far as I am concerned. However, when new, they often need a couple lanolin treatments to become fully effective.

There are loads of other covers out there that might work for you. Especially if the bulk from the wool is a problem. I was always happiest with Imse Vimse, Mother-ease, Thirsties and bummis.

Good luck

We always had leaks through an aristocrat, sorry. I prefer the Dancing Bears fleece cover - much easier to care for. But really, at that age, dd could pee through two sposies, one on top of the other. I only had success with cloth... but I know you don't want to do that. But at least take comfort that the eating all night is normal and it means he is healthy and growing! Does he sleep with you? Having my babies in bed minimized the amount of disruptions b/c I didn't have to wake up to feed them.

What brand of sposies are you using? I like pampers best for absorbancy when we need to use them... but it varies some on the shape of the baby.

Baby Beehinds wool covers are pretty good for that sort of thing, nice and thick AND you can put them in the washing machine!!! (still need to be lanolized though) They are less bulky than the aristocrats since they're a wrap cover, not a pull-on.

But if he is really a super pee-er (my DD2 is), a cloth diaper is your best bet. You could get 3 and wash them in your regular laundry--if he's peeing all over everything anyway it won't make much difference. Something like a crickett's or goodmama goodnight with extra doublers and a disana cover (like aristocrat but better) will get him through the night.

Thanks. We have been using Huggies, but i just bought a pack of pampers to try.
Maybe i will get a fleece wrap cover.....I would do cloth just at night, but again it seems so bulky, like i could never get his pj's on over a diaper plus all the doublers and the cover.
ehh, or i can just wrap him in a towel or a shamee at night ha ha

ETA yes he sleeps with me, or in the arms reach depending on my mood. I just wish he would go back to eating once a night then both my sleep deprivation problem and his excessive peeing would be solved.

To solve the problem of fitting pajamas over the cloth and/or wool, you could get a pair of wool longies for a diaper cover. Then you don't need to put anything over them. Just pair with a shirt or sleeping gown.

Or get a wool sleep sack. Same principle--functions as diaper cover and pajamas

I can use normal pjs over the night diapers. I usually choose two-piece pjs, so no problem there, but if you want to use one-piece, then just get a bigger size (he is going to grow anyway!)

As for him going back to eating once a night... sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but it is unlikely in the near future! Hang in there!
