DS fell out of bed last night

I have no idea how it happened. It must have been instant. I always feel him if he moves (or have until now ) One second I am sleeping and the next I hear whump, waaaahhhhhh and my husband is on top of me as he had immediately (faster than me) vaulted over the bed to get to DS. He bruised his foot pretty badly.

DS is fine. Our bed is a low platform king that is maybe 12 in off the ground. He does normally sleep on the outside of the bed but I have a bumper cushion there that was supposed to prevent this kind of thing. And he sleeps in the crook of my arm for pete's sake!

He is 19 m.o. and this has never happened before. Honestly, I don't even know *how* it happened.

I think we will have to push the bed against the wall now. I feel like the WORST mother ever.

I posted about this maybe a month ago when my DD who was only 3 or 4 months at the time rolled off the bed right in front of me!!

You are not the worst mother ever! It happens as I have been told all the time.
If it makes you feel any better DD rolled off the bed again (in front of me again) and this time the lamp fell on her! She has a small bruise on her forhead that is now fading. I mean come on if anyone is going to win that award this week it would be me!

My l/o starts the night in her toddler bed and when she wakes we bring her to our bed in the same room. The set up is her bed, the dog beds on the floor, then our bed. Our dogs wake up at any sound or movement. But somehow, one night I wake up and hear wimpering [I]under[I] my bed. I wake up and there's my 12 month old daughter under my bed. How did she get there? Silently?!? Without the dogs so much as stirring? I have NO idea.

Just wanted to say...you are NOT the worst momma ever - though I felt the same way BOTH times my dd fell out of bed! It just happens sometime and you have to make adjustments to keep them from getting hurt. We currently have pillows on the floor around the bed just in case, but if they're only falling from the mattress to the floor it's pretty hard to get hurt. Don't beat yourself up. Many of us have been there! And I know it always makes me feel better when folks here tell me I'm not a terrible mom.

Okay, I am the worst mother ever. My DD fell off the bed TWICE in two days. Needless to say, we are changing sleeping arrangements. I can't believe I didn't do it sooner.

The same thing happened to me a few nights ago.

Now my mattress is on the floor.

awww I'm glad your LO is okay, I think it's happened to all Mamas be it from the bed, the couch, etc. Don't beat yourself up, you are in no way the worst Mama ever, ever.

I will be a repeater, it happens to most of us... dd1 only fell off the bed once, we put it on the floor. dd2 jumped off the bed once when i was putting on a shirt. i put the bed on the floor. I do not have a box spring, just a mattress with a 2 in foam mattress on top (the mattress was free and is very sprung). I have many pillows. I put pillows around the bed on the open side (the other 2 sides are against the wall), that way when she goes off head first, it is soft. I also worked with her when she was ready to learn how to get off the bed safely (even tho it is on floor) i turned her around and showed her how to get off feet first) she caught on quick, but still does headers at times. it doesnt hurt her at all because of the pillows. you are not a bad mommy, though I bet many of us know the feeling.... beds are unnatural, a manmade device that we have to teach about... if we all still slept on furs on the cave floor, it wouldn't be a factor...but not many of us actually do that.

dd1 6 yo
dd2 11 mo

Dd fell out of our bed TWICE in one night. She cut her ear on the second time. And it's about a 2 1/2 foot fall (onto carpet thankfully).

It's a right of passage for babies/toddlers to fall off the bed.

At some point in time they must also...

Bounce off the couch, fall down stairs and burn themselves.

I think it's listed as a developmental milestone
