What is homemade in your house?

I have just started making homemade peanut butter, chicken stock, and salsa. These used to be items I would buy at the grocery store.
What do you now make at home that you used to buy? This is so fun and exciting to make all of this at home, know exactly what is in it, etc.
I want to make more stuff at home!!!! Please share with me!

I make bread, salsa, guacamole, and sauces like bechamel or gravy sauces. I plan to start making my own ketchup.

How do you make hot sauce?

And pickled ginger?

Baked goods
Most sauces - salsa, peanut sauce, Asian dipping sauces etc. I haven't tried ketchup yet. I noticed a pp makes a teriyaki sauce without soy. I'm curious about how that's done.

bread, muffins, cookies, cakes
mayonnaise, salad dressings, dips and sauces
chicken stock
sometimes yogurt and cheese

Um, the kids.

And occasionally the bread or sweets.

Probably easier to ask what isn't homemade...

Of condiments, I still buy mustard because I haven't found a recipe I like, and most asian sauces.

I'd love to find a recipe for Worcestershire.

someone told me once that original worcesterchire was made from the drippings of a beef roast. I don't know if that's true, but interesting to know if you want to make at home.

The only thing I used Worcestershire sauce in was Chex party mix, and I figured out the subs for that. Not sure what else you'd use it in, but it would probably translate. I'll check and see if the others are on my blog. If not, I'll try to remember to post them. The pickled ginger is very easy. www.kathysrecipebox.com

Teriyaki Sauce

ÂĽ c. molasses
ÂĽ c. orange juice
ÂĽ c. canola oil
2 Tbs. sherry
1 tsp. ginger
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp. sea salt

Mix all together. I use it to marinate chicken before grilling. Can also be used in stir fries.

Hot Sauce
3 yellow chilis (moderately hot)
2 dried chilis
1 clove garlic, peeled
1 c. safe vinegar, divided (I used white balsamic)
1 Tbs. minced onion
½ tsp. sea salt
1 tsp. agave syrup
1 Tbs. port wine
1 Tbs. cayenne pepper

Boil the peppers, onion, and garlic in ½ c. vinegar and salt until tender. Puree in blender with agave syrup. Dilute puree with ½ c. more vinegar until it’s the right consistency. Add port wine and cayenne pepper and bring back to a boil.

I also make chicken broth, beef broth, sweetened condensed milk, coconut milk yogurt, granola, English muffins, salsa, pickles, gluten-free bread. Because we have a lot of food intolerances, there isn't much that I don't make, mostly because I have to.

Last year I went nuts picking fruit so I stocked up our pantry with all different kinds of jam (silly since we don't really eat jam much). I also canned applesauce.

This year I canned a bunch of salsa, pickled okra, and pickled banana peppers.

I don't like to make bread in the summer (too hot in the South), but it's cooling off so it's time to do that again. We made tortillas the other night with lard I had rendered. We've also done pretzels which DS enjoyed thoroughly. He loves working with dough.

And I make blueberry vodka every year when we go blueberry picking. I use store-bought vodka and infuse it with blueberries. It's delicious!

Thank you, thank you! I suspected the teriyaki sauce had molasses. Very kind of you to share. I'll have to try it out.

worchestershire sauce
