My VBAC baby is now 8 months old, but I just recently had a conversation with someone and when I mentioned that fundal pressure was used during my VBAC they were shocked. Makes sense to me, extra pressure on the uterus, probably not a good idea....but, is that true? Should fundal pressure have not been done on me? Too late now obviously, baby is out, here, 8 months old and we're all healthy...just curious if that was a bad call??

This book feels good in your hands. The paper is heavyweight, and the illustrations flow perfectly.

I have heard of fundal pressure being used....once, years ago as a doula, the dad and I took turns delivering serious fundal pressure at doc's insistence...it was awful and an all around traumatic birth for mom and baby (tho all was well in the end).
Anyway, to me it seems like a really, really really BAD idea, and I can't imagine that it is really a safe, effective way to help get a baby out.
And this goes double or more for vbacs! Dangerous.

There are times when it seems like it might be productive but only in a sadistic sort of way. I'm sorry that anyone has ever had to go through that.
In a natural labor, the uterus works perfectly fine and will get that baby out. I cannot imagine that pushing on the top of a uterus from an outside source would ever be a good idea!

Thanks ladies for the info. Well, next time WILL be different!
But for this, it was after my natural labor and 2 hours of pushing, I ended up asking for an epidural after all of that (mental and physical exhaustion got to me)!
So, I guess "luckily" it wasn't painful...but sounds like not a good idea either!
Like I said, next time it will be different. #1 was a c/s, #2 was my almost natural vbac, #3 (when it's time) will be my all natural vbac!
