While we're on the subject of wet nursing

I still lactate. My daughter is completely weaned, and has been for about a year.

I still feel the tingle of let down at certain times (when she is hungry and when she cries, or if other kids cry), and I still produce milk, if I hand-express. My supply isn't great, but if I started pumping again, I bet I could get it up really quickly.

How does one go about donating breast milk? My daughter was a preemie and thankfully, I had a VERY supportive NICU staff and lactation consultant, so I was able to pump and nurse my baby. If they hadn't been so supportive of my efforts, I probably would have quit. (One nurse cheered me on as I finally got to ONE ounce and it felt so good to accomplish that.)

Anyway...I figure I may as well donate it if I still have it. I can't give it to my daughter...She is completely on solids and regular milk...Unless I added it to the regular milk. So any websites or health organizations you know of that I am able to donate milk to...Please help!

Thanks for any info you can provide!!

I don't know much about donating, but your LO is still young. If I were you, I'd totally pump and give it to her in a sippy instead of cow's milk. My 3yo DS gets weirded out by breast milk, but if I have a little pumped that's not worth freezing for my newborn, I'll put it in some milk for him.

I agree, can you use it for your own lo in a sippy?

hm, the milk bank i donated to only allowed you to start donating if your baby was under 6 months. although they were happy to continue accepting it if you had already started donating when your baby was over 6 months, if you see what i mean. not sure why.

Have you looked at Milkshare?

: Milk share. While older baby milk isn't ideal for infants, it's still mama milk. I have also heard of cancer patients looking for BM that maybe a baby can't or won't drink (been in the freezer too long, food allergy pumped after some drinking what have you)

I would pump it for your own baby before you donate! Your daughter would surely benefit from mama's milk!
