Recycled "Butt Sweater" Help!!!

I recently made several "butt sweaters" from recycled sweaters and am having some trouble with getting them waterproof! I felted and lanolized them really well, but as soon as baby's dipe gets wet to the point of needing to be changed, the cover is damp and getting the clothes damp as well. HELP!! What is the problem here?

On of the covers is made from a sweater that was 100% cashmere, one from 100% merino wool, and one from 40% lambswool/30% viscose/20% angora rabbit hair/10% cashmere. Are they maybe too thin? Should I add an extra "soaker" to the inside??? I can't figure this out.

wool for covers should be at least 70% wool from a sheep anything else won't work. If your cover that is 100% wool is having the same problem it may be too thin.

That being said, I don't put clothes over wool because it will wick the moisture through the wool to the fabric outside if that fabric is absorbant like cotton. That is why I make wool pants and put a t-shirt on the lo with them, or use soakers in the summer when their legs can be exposed.

Yep, same here. I use woolies by themselves. That said, the merino and cashmere are probably too thin on their own, you could sew a "bolster" into them to help.

Okay, good to know. Two of them are longies, so I'll just use them by themselves this winter, and the others for summer.
