Another hypnosis thread :)

Who's never done Hypnobabies or Hypnobirthing and would like to try it with your pregnancy? Who's done it before and can comment on how it helped or if it didn't?

I'm really interested in Hypnobabies/Hypnobirthing and am wondering if anyone else in this DDC will be doing it also.

We'll be doing Hypnobirthing. We have a friend who is a Mongan Method Hypnobirthing Instructor. Very excited to be trying it!

I want to try hypnobirthing this time. I haven't been able to find anyone who does a class on it here so I'll be getting a book/CD off of amazon and using that. Between hypnobirthing and a doula, things can't possibly go as bad as they did the last time.

I might, I don't really know yet. I'm waiting on a book from a library and will take a look at that and go from there.

I am interested in Hypno birthing, and birthing from within. I think I spontaneously did one of these things in my last birth. I was so inside myself, and at peace. There wasn't any pain. I really want to achieve that again, but I am not positive how I did it the first time!

I didn't for my first, but read the book and listened to the CD's for the second. I didn't go for all that they said, but I found it immensely helpful in teaching me how to focus through the pain. I'll be reading it again this time around, and practicing my focusing techniques.

I used self-hypnosis for my last birth and it worked amazingly! I read the entire Hypnobirthing book and did all of the practice sessions regularly at home with my dh. However, when I went into labor, I didn't want to do any of the stuff we had practiced. My mind and body simply went into a state of hypnosis and I stayed that way throughout the labor and birth. My dd was born face-up with her foot by her head (the nurse said it was one of the most painful ways to deliver), and I was fine.

I think all of the practice sessions and truly believing in that method really helped my body to do exactly what it needed to do when the time came. I will totally do it again!

atpeace - I just became a HypnoBirthing Practitioner and I took my classes in Toronto! I live in the states, but the Toronto class was the closest to me.
Needless to say, I will be doing a hypnobirth! I am very excited. We are having a homebirth, too. If you want references, I can give you the names of a few women in Toronto who offer HypnoBrithing classes.

Thanks everyone! I appreciate your comments, which have encouraged me.

I got a book on hold at the library too, I think it's Hypnobirthing (it's the only one they have), so I'll see how that works out. I've seen there are hypnosis tracts on youtube.com...anyone use those before?

Tcooper - YES! Please tell me who does it in Toronto! You must live in Buffalo or Niagara Falls area on NY state if Toronto was the closest to you...am I right?

My instructor was Jennifer Elliott. Her site is: www.lifesjourney.ca/
I love her! She was great to work with and is solid in what she does. Depending on what you are considering, and where you are located exactly, there was a midwife in my class named Babette (she does homebirths). She was also very, very cool. Relaxed and knowledgeable. I am bummed I don't live closer, or I would have her attend my birthing! Another girl I talked with most was Lilliana. I only have their email addresses, so I won't post them here. But, if you want I can message them to you or you can just contact Jennifer and she can direct you.

I actually live in Central PA. There were classes in Florida, but it is double the distance and twice the money for a hotel stay. And we had never been to Toronto!

I read Hypnobirthing and listened to the CD most nights in bed for the last 3 months. Only problem was, it was so relaxing I'd always fall asleep before the end!
I also read Natural Childbirth The Bradley Way (McCutcheon) which really explains labor so well.
It enabled me to recognise the emotional signposts of entering transition phase (when the L & D nurse didn't believe that I was that close so soon).
It was then the skills that I'd learned from Hypnobirthing that kept me off the drugs! Particularly the focus on relaxing every inch of your body and I also used the mantra, 'mind free, body free' alot.
Really worked for me and I'll be doing it again.

The great thing about hypnosis, is your mind is still 'awake' when you are asleep. You are still hearing the CD, even though your conscious mind is asleep. Think about those tapes people listen to overnight to quit smoking, etc. Same idea.

I had an epi vaginal birth with DD, but I was less crunchy then and very afraid of the pain. This time, I trust my body more (it gets pregnant! it breastfeeds for years!), and so I'd really like to have a water birth and use Hypnobabies.

Thanks for the comments ladies. Very valuable. I'm really looking forward to this!

Thanks for the link, Tcooper! I've checked out her site. I also just got the book from the library and it came with a CD, so I'm going to check it out today.
