Deer meat for raw fed dog

My aunt just gave me a deer leg. One of her friends is a hunter. Can I give it to the dog?

I know not to let him chew on large weight bearing bones, so no worries there. I am just not sure if the meat is safe. Is there anything he can catch from it?

Typically it's recommended to freeze wild venison, but I don't know the specifics since we've never had access to it. I'd ask on some of the raw groups or Google it.

Well, it's been frozen for a while now(at least a month).

I couldn't find anything except warnings for potential parasites, but the freezing should take care of that.

I put him outside with it and he won't touch the darn thing . I even cut a couple chunks off and nothing.
I guess he's not a fan of venison.
I think I'm going to throw it out.

We got some deer meat a few weeks ago and our dog loved it. I feel fine feeding it as long as it's been frozen for a week+ - and that goes for any game like rabbit, etc.

I was hoping to get some deer bones from some hunting friends this season, so I recently asked this on one of my dog boards. Didn't get much response, but someone did mention that I needed to find out if the deer came from a chronic wasting disease area. I think its like mad cow for deer and elk. Apparently you don't want to feed infected meat to your dog. So far we haven't received any bones yet and as I'll be freezing them first, I haven't done any research to verify yet, but thought I'd pass it along.

As long as it has been frozen for at least 3 weeks (to kill common parasites) you should be golden!

Don't throw it out just yet - let it stink up a bit and he'll be keen to chow down . Sometimes my dogs don't like to eat a treat right away, they leave it for a while (a day or two) before they show any interested.

It is a very common raw feeding myth that freezing meat for x amount of weeks will kill all parasites. That is not correct. Studies have found living parasites in game meat that was frozen for years and then thawed.

Different areas and species have different types parasites. Information (as in scientific peer reviewed research not some random person on the interwebz said ) relative to geographic location and species is very easy to find.
