Christmas Gift Ideas, By Age?

I thought this might be a helpful thread to start. I'm always stumped this time of year.

I'd love to hear things people are planning to buy AS WELL as their children's current favorite items they would recommend for others, listed by age!

I can't wait to see all the ideas

All our gifts this year are bought from Mindware http://www.mindwareonline.com/MWESTO...aspx?&SG=PMDY1
they have a shop by age button, my kids play with this stuff more than any other toys if you want a list of some of the things we are buying I will update later

My son turns 3 in December. Here is what we are getting him:

For his birthday: Gears, Gear, Gears Super Set

For Christmas: An adventure kit with travel binoculars, a hand-cranked flashlight, and a field guide about the birds of Hawaii (we live on Oahu). I think the flashlight will be a hit. He keeps stealing mine and wearing down the batteries.

I know grandparents are getting him some Thomas stuff for his train table and probably a few other things.

Other than the train table and cars he doesn't actually play with a lot of his toys, so its been a struggle find things that are age appropriate AND fun to open.
