Hospitals in Southcoast Areas that Allow VBACs with Midwives?

(I am in MA) I am pregnant with my third (newly pregnant - just 7 weeks), and I now that Tobey does not allow VBACs : ( I am being forced to leave my local midwife and give birth somewhere else, with someone else (unless, of course, the hospital will hear my plea - I intend to at least try to be heard). Either way, I have to start doing my research now. Having had an emergency c-section the with my first birth, I like the option of being in a hospital setting with a midwife and am not considering a home birth. However, I very much want to be under the care of a midwife, and a midwife who truly, genuinely follows the midwifery model of care. Tobey is the closest hospital to me, so after that I am looking at probably a good 45 minute drive (great, my labor was five hours with my VBAC); I am willing to make the drive for the right place, but man would I rather be at Tobey. : ( Anyone have any suggestions as to who to see or where to go? South Shore Hospital? Womena dn Infants? Brigham and Women's? So overwhelmed.

vbac in southeastern ma

hey there

i recently moved out of the area, but had done a lot of research on the subject before leaving so i can give you all i know!

all southcoast hospitals have a vbac ban (charlton, st. lukes, tobey)...so you will not vbac there unless you show up in labor and refuse to be sectioned...ugh!

jordan in plymouth does not have a ban...but there recent stats showed one successful vbac in a year's time....not promising

morton in taunton has vbac ban, women and infants in providence allows vbac but it is a teaching hospital and everything they do is very clinical...you will most likely be pushed into all sorts of interventions (imho).

south shore is probably your best bet...there is a group of midwives in brockton that i'd heard good things about ( www.southshoremidwifery.com ) that delivers at south shore. its a bunch of midwives and only one md. if we had stayed in massachusetts, i planned to use them. my cousin is a labor and delivery nurse at south shore and she recommended them as well.

good luck and let me know if you have any other questions
