Yet another YMCA post... question about their response

I posted a comment in a thread a few days ago about my incident at the local YMCA. I signed up for a free month and while there I was told by a child care worker that I could not breastfeed there because the children would see me. I left and never went back. Even though I signed up for a mom/daughter class and was looking forward to membership the woman made me very uncomfortable. It was not just the breastfeeding honestly. She did not seem to know anything about children and when I asked her what they would do with my 11 month old if she cried she said she would put her in a swing. The room was small and kinda crappy with a bunch of swings along the wall. The woman struck me as someone who should not be around children. She talked bad about the morning staff to me. She was not paying any attention to the kids. And ont op of everything else she told me breastfeeding in front of the kids was inappropriate.

I called the local Y twice leaving messages with two different managers and never heard back. Instead I got a bill in the mail for $700 even though I was supposed to get a scholarship.

So the other day I wrote a letter to the HQ. I only mentioned the breastfeeding incident and that I had called several times and never heard back. I just got a response and it was pretty empty...

"Hello-

Do you take this to mean the breastfeeding policy is up tot he local branch?? I thought they had a national policy. Or are they saying the policy is that the local branch must deal with the issue?

Either way what a disappointing response. She did not address any of the issues I brought up.

The bill really freaked me out because initially I was supposed to have a low income scholarship which clearly was never followed through on. So they autorenewed my membership even though I never responded to the cards asking me to renew.

Still waiting to hear back...

As stated in another thread I work for our local Y. I love it. Can't imagine working anywhere else. Ours is a very family and breastfeeding friendly facility. Our childwatch area is wonderful. My children spend approximately 20 hours a week there and they are as happy as can be!! The childwatch area consists of two very large rooms....one for infants and toddlers and another one for preschool aged and older. I could go on and on, but this is a lactivism thread.

I'm so sorry you are having troubles. It saddens me. I don't know what to say. I guess I have it good where I am at.

I'm actually putting DS in child watch tomorrow... and I'm not even going to the gym LMAO. He just loves it and has been begging. DD will do free climb on the rock wall so I'll just watch her I think.
As for that bill- was it a "pay this now" or a "pay this to have your membership another year"? Maybe they sent it like a reminder. Did you fill out the scholorship paperwork? If you get a scholorship, it's like opening a new membership, I believe so I don't think you can renew an old one with a sch. Does that make sense?
(Still don't have anything about the response. It sounds like a blow off to me but I *hope* it's a "we're gonna forward this to someone who can help you")
