My current nursing "issues"

Hey mamas!

So DD (4.5mo) is a good nurser, always has been, but has been making nursing a bit more difficult for the past month.
She seems to be getting 'lazy' with her latch, just getting on there with top lip curled in and sometimes bottom lip. Then she just nurses like that. OW! I correct it, but she keeps doing it...

What is with that? Any advice?

Second, she gets irritated while nursing until letdown hits. She will suckle, then pull away and yell, then repeat till letdown. Once letdown hits, she is quiet and happy, occasionally letting her eyes roll back as if to say "finally".
She is a big girl, very healthy, so I know she is getting plenty of milk, so what's the deal with that?

lol, I can't complain much, because she really is a great and easy baby, but these two things just irk me!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Don't have any advice but wanted to say that my 4 mo. old DD does the same thing. Worst part is it just makes it take longer for letdown

Hope it gets better soon!

NAK

I'm going to guess that the latch issue is related to teething. Keep correcting it and it will probably pass.

As for let down, can you hand express or pump just a little before putting baby to the breast to encourage a quicker let down?

My son is a pretty good nurser, too, but he will come at me with his lips curled in like that too. I usually just use my finger and gently flip his lips outward while saying "lips out please!" Other times, I will pull him off and wait for him to open his mouth wide with flared lips("Big lips!") to correct the latch. Just don't continue to let DD nurse like that or it will really end up hurting you.
