I have a friend who registered for a Bjorn. Would a Moby be appropriate? She is pretty mainstream, so I wonder!

YES! I have some more mainstream friends that I let borrow mine and they were in love. It is sooo much more comfortable! Just assure her that although the length of fabric looks intimidating, it really is very easy once you know how to wrap it. And you can still just slip baby in and out once you have it wrapped

My mil bought me the baby bjorn because I used it forever w/second son who nursed every second of every moment even while I needed to get older son out to school (was 12 years ago so baby wearing options were much less mainstream). Now, I am sooo excited for all the choices and registered for a moby... I will def buy it myself if it is not gifted. I think hips & legs are better in a moby, but I have not actually seen one on up close. So excited to try it out w/my new little babe in a few weeks!!

Not all stretchy wraps are alike....I definitely don't recommend the Ultimate Baby Wrap as it is WAY too stretchy and hard to get a good secure hold, especially for a beginner. Back in the day, I actually dropped my ds out of one. I had no one to teach me, and I thought he was secure, but I bent over, and blammo, he was on the floor.
If she's registered for the Bjorn, she'll probably think that's the greatest. Maybe go in with some other people going to the shower and get her the Pikkolo by CatBird Baby instead? It can do the same things as the Bjorn, only better -- and it's easier to nurse in, can do back carries, and will last a lot longer too.
If you do go with the Moby, I'd definitely teach her how to use it -- pulling 6 yards of fabric out of the bag is very intimidating for a lot of people and if they don't get a hands-on demo, it's hard to see how such a simple piece of fabric can be so easy and comfy.

I have given several carriers as gifts, but choose different styles based on the mother. If you think she'll be open to using a Moby, then get one! Stretch wraps are my favorite for newborns! But some people feel too overwhelmed to use a wrap and won't even try. If you think she's more interested in a buckle carrier/soft structured carrier, try a Beco or an AngelPack. A Pikkolo is also a good option, like earlier mentioned. These are pricier carriers than a Moby, so you may want to find someone to split the cost with you. But I'm sure it would be worth it! If someone buys her the Bjorn, tell her to return it and use the money for something else!!! Those carriers are awful and a waist of money!!!
