Can I have ketchup if I'm GF, what about tomatoes sauces etc. that don't specifically say GF but don't have gluten containing ingredients?

I'm on my first day of going gluten/dairy free and took a list of all of the "code" words for gluten with me to the grocery store. There were somethings that didn't say they were gluten free but didn't have any grains etc in them ie spagetti sauce. Also does vinegar and therefore ketchup have gluten. Is apple cider vinegar ok. Lastly those of you with kids with dairy issues...can they tolerate raw milk? What do you use for milk? I don't want to do soy. Thanks

The vinegar thing is up for debate. On the celiac web pages, it says that if the grain vinegar is distilled, then it is gluten free. Since we're not technically celiac, but avoid gluten, I just find it easier to not have anything that says "vinegar" if it doesn't specify. Red/white wine vinegars are okay, apple cider vinegar is okay, and balsamic vinegars are okay, oh, and rice vinegar.

My 2 kids and I who are dairy intolerant have tried raw milk and it gives us the same problem. We use coconut milk or rice milk (except DS can't have rice) or just do without, and change recipes around.

See, I think that this article is wrong (or at least this quote, haven't read the article yet). I didn't have confirmed, nor did my daughter, celiac disease, just suspected. If I had kept eating gluten then my IQ would have kept dropping, hair still falling out and all the other symptoms that came with it. And my breastfeeding DD would have gotten worse reactions like my son-full blown reactions to gluten not just become bratty and any other hidden symptoms. And I bf her til she was 14 months old. With the history of cd in the family, in any case I would immediately remove it from their diet weither or not they react to it. There's a high chance of them developing cd in the future anyway. Plus it's easier and safer to deal with a totally gluten free household.
