My DD just grew out of her infant prefolds/small covers. We never had problem with leaks. I bought the next size up of prefolds and did the pre-washing (4-6 times on hot with a little detergent) and now we are constantly having issues with leaking. It is like the prefolds just are not absorbing the liquid. Any suggestions?? Thanks

are they the thicker ones (4x8x4 ply) or the thinner ones (4x6x4)? chinese or indian? one would be called premium (thicker), one called regular (thinner) i think. we have some regular prefolds that i honestly dont think absorb any more than our infant prefolds do. the regular ones we have are chinese, and the infant ones are indian and seem thicker and softer. they may still need more washing, too. although our pfs were usable after maybe 3 washes, they definitely gained absorbancy with later washings!

I was thinking they may need more washing too. Often the companies selling them say that you need to wash X times in hot water, but they won't reach their full absorbency till Y more washes. You could try boiling them too to expedite the process.
Is the water beading on the surface or are they just not absorbing as much? I would check the layering too as the PP mentioned.
