I think maybe I'm almost ready

I thought the baby dropped today, because I was suddenly hungry (like FAMISHED--I ate 2 lunches, one at 10:15 and one at 11:30 and I was hungry again by 1) and could breathe better. I had a midwife appointment at 2 and yep, the baby's head is in my pelvis and I'm measuring 38 where last week I was measuring 40. It was my favorite midwife and she is going on call tonight and for the next 7 days, so that is making me want to have the baby within the next 7 days!

Good luck!

Awesome! Mine is head down deep in my pelvis too but strangely I've been getting bad heartburn all of a sudden. Not to mention being nauseous. I'm still starving all the time though...

What does it mean when the baby engages? Does it mean you are going to give birth soon?

I don't know. I guess we'll see.

Yesterday at work I cleaned out my desk, today I went out for breakfast with co-workers but took the rest of the day off because dd's school was closed. They kept asking me was I coming in Monday and I kept saying if I don't have the baby, then yes. Then dd and I went shopping and she totally wore me out. I have no idea how full-time SAHMs do it (even though I was one for two years!).

FIL called a little while ago wanting to know if he and his wife can visit next weekend. I could hear dh's side of the conversation, telling him, normally they'd be welcome but if I am too close to giving birth on either side I am not going to want them around. I could hear dh saying, "No, she won't be in the hospital, not unless some serious complications happen. No, she's going to be HERE." I had almost the same conversation with FIL when he called last week. He seems unable to wrap his mind around having a baby without going to the hospital. Now, in your average seventy-one-year-old man, this would not surprise me, but DH WAS A PLANNED UC!!!!! You would think delivering his own son in his own bedroom without any medical assistance at all would clue him in to the fact that not everyone has a baby in a hospital! Even if it was 38 years ago!!

But, that's not any weirder than sending my brother a family video and him writing back to tell me he didn't know I was pregnant. We had lunch together last August; I was wearing maternity clothes; I had a visible bump; I had a long conversation about the pregnancy with his wife. Apparently he wasn't paying attention....

Anyway, still hoping I have the baby before Thursday so my favorite midwife can be there, but no signs of labor whatsoever, so trying to be laid back about it. It's hard to be laid back when it's all anyone can talk about, though.

Crossing my fingers for you! And yes, I completely know what it is like to be a watched pot!

Too funny about the planned UC! My goodness! You'd think he'd totally get it!

Tmi

This morning I woke up and went to the bathroom, but dd distracted me by running out of the room with the toilet paper just as I was reaching for it. I got another roll but forgot to look at the first wipe. The SECOND wipe, though, had a tiny but unmistakable bit of blood on it. Maybe a sign???

I am in early labor, contractions 10 minutes apart lasting 30 seconds for the last 5 hours or so. Nothing too intense, but based on my history I do think I will have the baby today. Waiting for dh and dd to wake up so I can call the midwife and our friends who are going to take care of dd. Am feeling ambivalent about kicking dd out of the house--I can't concentrate if she's here, but I don't want her to feel rejected.

Sounds very promising!!! I totally hear you on the kids being around. I cannot concentrate at all w/ them right there, but I hate to make them leave for anything.

Well, darn it, now they've petered out! This was NOT my experience last time. Our friends came and got dd anyway and I'm hoping maybe having her gone will get me more in the zone.

Oh, that stinks!!!

I'm still having contractions, but they're still not going anywhere. This labor started out at the same time as my labor with dd, but by this time I was holding dd in my arms! And second labors are supposed to be FASTER! Is this my first lesson in Every Child is Different?

I am enjoying more alone time with dh than we have had in recent memory, even if I did send him over to his mother's house for a couple of hours in the afternoon to throw her off the trail (he did great). I feel bad about dd not being with us, but I just called our friends, who put her on the phone with me.

DD: Where is it?
Me: Well, I'm working on it, but the baby's still in my womb.
DD: [hands the phone to my friend and walks off to play with the other kids]

That made me feel a little better at least! I guess dh and I will just have an evening together.

wow, that's really annoying. I am hoping you enjoy your alone time and that something productive happens soon!

Okay, I just got back from being checked. I'm 4 cm dilated and 80% effaced. The midwife who checked me said she thinks the only reason I'm not in full-on labor is that the baby is high, like -3 station, and that as soon as the head settles into my cervix, I'll give birth. She is sending one of the assistant midwives down here to be with me, and giving a heads-up to the midwife on call. They both live a lot farther away so dh and I are going to get Mexican takeout (I don't like spicy food but I am making an exception tonight ) and sit tight. They can't predict for sure but they think I probably will give birth tonight or tomorrow morning.
