I had some retained placenta with my first baby and the OB did pull it out. It was actually kind of freaky feeling when that happened. It wasn't as painful as when the nurse pushed down on my uterus after birth, however.

I didn't have retained placenta with my homebirth thankfully.

The worst part is, nothing was retained. He was just in a hurry to repair the awful tear caused by the episiotomy. There are some natives who work there, but all too few doctors. Mostly support staff. It really was a bit like 1920 now that I think about it.
