Tricks for resettling?

My dd has two good stretches of sleep during the night...from about 6 till 10:30 p.m. and again from 1 till 6 a.m. And she's only waking once...which I'm thankful for. But she's up most nights from 10-ish until 1-ish. My husband and I are losing patience with the LONG waking period in the middle of the night.

I don't turn on any lights, I don't talk, I keep things peaceful....I don't play or interact much at all. And I try to get to her as soon as she makes a peep. But she is seriously SO wide awake and it takes so long to get her back to sleep. We're opearating on 3-4 hours of sleep a night and can't function like this for much longer. Some nights she'll fall alseep in our arms, get to limp-limbed, and then wake up the second I put her down....and we'll go through that cycle over and over. Other nights, she just won't fall asleep for 3+ hours...

Any suggestions for reducing the length of this awake period?? I'm feeling pretty desperate this morning....

THanks Mamas....

What about putting her to bed later? If DS fell asleep before 7 he would treat it more like a late nap instead of going to bed and wake up later and be awake for 2-3 hours before he go fall asleep again.

At 9 mons DS would wake around 9am and take first nap 2 hours after waking sleep for about 1.5-2 hours then be up for about 3-4 hours and then nap again for about an hour then be up for 3 hours then to bed for the night.
ex:
9am -wake
11am-nap
1 pm-wake
4 pm -nap
5 pm -wake
8 pm bed

Are you cosleeping? Maybe sleeping touching you would allow wake up to be slight and not as big as pick up/put down?

I agree with possibly a later bedtime, at that age, my dd had to be in bed around 7, any earlier than 7, and we were sure to get a LONG wakeful period in the middle of the night, even if it was 6:50 when she fell asleep.
