~January 2009 mamas...new thread here!~

Hey, I couldn't find the thread from October, so I stopped looking after page 8.

My ds2, Tucker, was born on 1-22. He is a very happy and enterprising little guy. Not walking yet, but he does this weird thing where he straightens his legs, sticks his butt up in the air, and "walks" with his hands still on the floor. It's really funny. I figured he would walk earlier since he has a big brother (ds1 is 3 1/2), but he isn't...I guess he just prefers to crawl everywhere, and man is he fast! I will set him down, walk away, look down, and he's right there with me, grinning like "who me?" Haha, it's crazy.

What are everyone else's lo's up to?
my lo was born jan 31, and I previously posted in the Feb thread, but I'll join you over here.
He's crawling- scooting really- all around, and has just started sort of cruising, short distances. he eats everything he can get his hands on. we haven't found a food he doesn't like, including things i wont even eat- olives, blue cheese, beets...
he has just developed this amazingly horrifying habit of grinding his little teeth together ( i posted a thread about it..)
he's tall and skinny so far, taking after my brother more than dh or myself- he's 29 inches and between 16-17 lbs.
he has not been sleeping well the last week or so and my sanity is suffering a bit!

my ds was born january 18. he's crawling and cruising like a mad man. he is definitely fast. he's starting to let go when cruising on furniture -- but he immediately topples over. i'm guessing it won't be long before he walks...

he's been way into solid food. we're doing baby led weaning and i've started offering him solids 2-3x a day and he seems to love it. he still nurses like a barracuda, too.

let's see...sleep has been a little better, since we moved him from our bed to his crib. he still wakes up a few times but usually only nurses once.

he's just a fun kid. i really like this stage. he is so fun and interactive. he loves to initiate peek-a-boo, ransack the house, chase the cats....

he has a little cold that just started last night. he's had two previous ear infections and they always started out as colds so i am hoping against hope that this doesn't lead to an ear infection. again. one of the reasons i wanted to breastfeed was so avoid ear infections but to no avail...

oh! and he's starting to point to new and interesting objects and say, "dis?" which i am guessing means "what's this?". and he can say cat, dog, mama, dada.

he's just a cute kid! i love him to pieces. we just got family photos taken last week, and the photographer posted one of him on her blog. http://jrophotos.com/insideout2/ (scroll down, we're the top entry)

isn't he cute???

Yay for this thread!! Missed all you mamas from our DDC.

Sam was born 1-16 and is quite the "second" baby. He's really in his solid foods, like as is no purees at all he just wants the real stuff. He hasn't started to wean (my first one started too at this age) and through it all he nurses up a storm and must have his ninnies!! His big bro Jack is wonderful with him and loves him dearly. We have not had a single moment of "baby" jealousy.

We hit a milestone this week in going from scooting to crawling on hands/knees. And of course now we can't stop him

I'll have to find a picture here to post of my little chubbster.

Hello! I post in the February thread because I was actually due in February. But DS was born January 18th, so I'll post here too

DS is crawling like crazy, will pull up to standing on anything he can and then walk along (while holding on). He loves his food but still nurses a ton. He has never been a 'good' sleeper and he still wakes up every couple of hours. He has 4 teeth now (the top front 2 and bottom front 2). He babbles a lot, says 'mama' and sort of says 'dada', most of it is just babble though. He is a very curious and fun little boy. Always into something or looking for something to get into. Loves people and is a little charmer.

Hey, I'm happy that you started this up again. My DS was born on Jan-16. He's standing on his own for long lengths of time (and can hold things while standing, looking around, etc.), cruising, and starting to "chance it" with little steps on his own. He gets a real kick out of giving it a go! He also loves climbing staircases! His other favorite activities include throwing balls and blocks, and he also knows how to kick a soccer ball!

Balls...he loves balls.

His sleep is, eh. Food is great. Says dada more than mama (what gives?). He's the cutest little guy! He's also super sweet, especially when he nuzzles into me.

Hello!!

I've been offline since December of '08...finally got hooked up again yesterday and wanted to joinm in the fun!

My youngest Dd was born Jan 16th, she was a planned, then un=planned, then re-planned UC, lol

She's a walking, talking mashine who's got a great sence of humour and the cutest coy grin when she's teasing you.

Dinner needs to get started, so I'm off, but I'll be back, and sooo p;eased to finally be back on MDC!!

Ciao,
~Yola

love all the pics--we've got some super cuties, don't we ?!

Emmie Jo was born on Jan 4. She is still "army crawling" everywhere, though now she does take one or two "steps" on her knees before splatting to her belly. Just starting to try grabbing things to pull up on, but hasn't actually pulled up to her feet yet. She is very cautious, and she also has older sisters and mama to rescue her from everything! She babbles, mostly says da da, meows like a cat. She is one super lovey baby--so sweet and cuddly.

Still nursing, eats a lot of foods, but definitely does not like peas . Started sleeping much better about 2-3 weeks ago...went from waking/nursing 3 times a night to sleeping through or waking just once. Let's hope it sticks!!

Pretty blue eyes!

Phoenix just pulled up for the first time yesterday. He pulled up onto a clean laundry basket and started throwing things out of it! (his diapers, mostly!)

I am so glad I stopped by today and saw this thread! Xander was born 1/8. The only other baby around us right now is one of my husbands coworkers and she's been an early everything (crawl, walk, talk) and so I've been feeling like Xander is so far behind, nice to know other babies are also just getting moving and not running all around the place.

Xander was not a crawler, he scoots on his back (and has a bald spot on the back of his head from it) or rolls to get where he wants to go. In the last month he's learned the crawling movements but still prefers to scoot on his back. This last week or so he's taken to soldier crawling more and more. He's just really started to be willing to stand up, before he would curl his legs up when you tried to get him to stand and now he thrusts his legs out when you're trying to get him to sit. Over the last week and a half he has mastered getting into the sitting position and he has now pulled himself up into a stand more than once! He is still very unsteady on his feet and can only stand while holding onto things and hasn't tried to take any steps.

We found out at his 9 month checkup that he was anemic but his blood work this month shows that the iron supplements are working. However he isn't really gaining weight. He was in the 20th% percentile at his 6 month, down to 6th% at his 9 month, and now at 10 months he's dropped below the 5th%. My dh's family has a lot of petite people so I'm not worried that he's small but am worried that the weight gain hasn't stayed on the same growth curve.

I'm going to be trying to up the calories and fat in the food he's getting. Part of my problem with feeding him is that he gag's super easy. He refuses to eat anything with texture at all. And I mean any lumps-- it has to be a smooth and somewhat liquid puree or he won't eat it-- if he gets a lump he'll puke. He's started eating yoBaby yogurt and really likes that. We're still breastfeeding on demand but he's to interested in everything else to feed for any length of time so I don't think he's really ever getting to the hind milk. Anybody have any baby food recipes that are good for putting on weight?

Here's a photo of him from September. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pi...&id=1122017432 As you can see in the photo he's a very happy boy, always has been. He is just a joy to be around.

I usually post in February thread, but my little one was born on January 31st.
She's crawling and pulling up and cruising and chatting, but still no teeth.
I was just going to suggest, KatW, that you might think about adding olive oil or flax oil to Xander's purees. That was suggested to us when DD was struggling to maintain or put on any weight. I think it helped. Harder though if he's not into textures. DD is a little piggy and will nosh on anything.
Have you pureed avocado for him? If he likes it you could add oil to that.
I am going to try adding olive oil. When last tried he wouldn't touch the avocado but I plan on trying again. (how can he not like avocado?!) Right now I'm poaching chicken and making brown rice to puree for him-- sounds so gross to me but he likes it. Introducing him to lentils today (pureed), hope he likes them.

I too am from the Feb DDC but my little one made her appearance on January 29th. She started crawling right at 9 months and started pulling up last week. No cruising yet. I think she says a couple words but it could just be me wanting to hear them. LOL. She's started using some signs over the past weeks and I'm thinking it is so cool for her to be able to communicate ith me! No teeth here yet. She is a super picky eater. Gave up purees at 7 months and really only lately seems super intersted in food and what I'm eating. She's been doing finger foods since 7-8 months but often won't touch the fruit or veggies except to throw them on the floor. She actually let me feed her cereal off a spoon this morning and yogurt the other day...hopefully she is getting more adventurous and realizing she likes most of what I try to give her. She has a very definite mind of her own though! I fear I'm going to have a picky eater on my hands for her entire child hood!

Katw: One of the babies in my playgroup lost 1/2 lb in the 3.5 months since her last check up! Her mom managed to get her to gain 9 ounces in a week and a half by feeding her more often and putting oil and butter in her food. My little one has moved down the chart a bit too but rght now her height and weight are the same percentile (weight was higher last time) so the dr didn't seem worried.
