Hello all, from Portland...

I'm in the middle of miscarrying my first pregnancy right now and a friend suggested this website/forum. Wow, I wish I'd found you guys sooner! This is a great place. I'm a crunchy-organic Jewish Southern homemaker building my homestead in beautiful Portland, Oregon. Dunno how much posting I'll do straightaway since I'm not a mother after all, but if (G-d willing) I get pregnant again and it sticks, I'm sure I'll be around quite a bit. In the meantime, thank you so much for the information and stories - they're helping my emotional recovery more than you know. I hope someday I can give back to this community in return.

I am so sorry for your loss.

This community is a wonderful resource no matter where you are on your path in motherhood. I hope you get as much out of it as I have.

Portland is a wonderful area. My brother and his partner are out there and I visit quite often. I truly love it.

Welcome!

Thank you. I was in Montana for the summer a couple of years ago and I loved it there too!

Hello from Salem, and welcome. This is a wonderful place. I am so sorry for your loss. I experienced my second loss in July. Check out the "Finding Your Tribe" forum, specifically the Oregon/Washington/Idaho one, and you'll find all of the PacNWers.

Thank you so much for the warm welcome. I've just been browsing the board and wow, do I ever feel like I've come home! I guess I shouldn't just describe myself as a miscarrier... here's a better introduction.

I'm also devoted to traditional foods and organic gardening, I bake our bread and make most of our food from scratch (and if I may say so, it is usually excellent food), and I spend the hottest months of the year sweating over boiled jars and my canning pot. I got several hundred pounds of food out of my garden this year (organically - but don't tell Monsanto) and I'm something of a natural-foods activist. I've got three cats and four chickens, three of whom are laying and one who should start soon, and I'm in the process of converting my new house into a small urban self-sustaining farm. I'm also a longtime writer trying to figure out how to finally make a living at it.

I had planned to have my baby at home and if I'm lucky enough to carry the next pregnancy to term, I still intend to do that. I'm also very pro-breastfeeding and I hope to homeschool someday, partly so my children aren't institutionalized and partly because my husband travels so much for work I'd like us to be able to travel with him sometimes. Politically I'm a hardcore libertarian but not affiliated with any particular party. I knit a little bit (still learning) and I want to learn to sew once I can afford a machine. We don't have a TV but we do enjoy movies; my husband works in the film industry and occasionally I do as well.

When I first discovered I was pregnant, I went looking for a parenting forum and somehow missed this one; the ones I did find were full of pregnant women boasting about eating McDonald's every day and sharing recommendations on TV shows for infants. I'm very, very glad I finally found this site and a like-minded community instead! So thank you all. This is a wonderful place you have here.

I just wanted to say hi cause it appears we're in the same-ish neighborhood (from your post in another thread) I'm in the Foster-Powell area and know some great people here. I just had my first baby after nannying for others for years. I want to wish you the best when you start TTC again, and I have a fantastic local Homebirth Midwife reccomendation for you if it's applicable in the future. Feel free to PM me.

Oh man! That is crazy.

Welcome, and good for you for reaching out to find the support you need right now. I hope this will be the last time you need to find resources to help deal with a miscarriage, but I KNOW this isn't the last time you'll need support with your parenting journey. You'll have a great resource in MDC.
