I have some Horizon Organic Whole Milk, can I put them in there? Will they be ruined? Will it work to make kefir even though the milk is pasteurized? I could bop myself in the head for only gettin 2 gallons last week. Arghhhh.

Yup, kefir works fine in pasturized milk. Lots of people purposely make kefir out of pasturized milk because they don't have access to raw milk.

They'll be fine If they are in there for an extended period then you it may take them a batch or two to readjust to raw milk.

Since this is their first time in homogenized milk, will it take them longer to turn to kefir or should I still strain in 24 hrs even if it has not thickened?

We can't get raw milk and only use ov pasteurized and it works fine. Don't know if it will take longer since it is the only way I have made it. Good luck!

They can sit for up to 48 hours but then I'd give them fresh milk. If you're house is really warm, limit it to 36 hours.
