help with resources for 5 yo daughter

I have 5 yo twins (boy & girl). Every few months I feel like I get into a chronic discipline issue with one of them for a long couple months. In the recent past I read a book, "the purpose of boys," and found it helpful with my son.

Now, especially since kinder starte, I am finding myself at odds with my sweet 5 yo daughter. We are having issues with following directions, being honest and truthfull, helping herself solve problems, chronic whining, and chronic tantrums. Help!!!! Sometimes these moments of frustration are fueled by being hungry and having a difficult time recognizing that and moving through a task so we can eat (ie: get dressed so we can go eat breakfast, etc....). I am having an especially difficult time with our am routine and getting dressed (in appropriate clothes) for school.

Can anyone recommend any good simple, GD books in regards to young girls. I am sooooo fearfull that my daughter is going to grow up sassy and rude and be a ruthless teenager. JUst a note- I was not the safest teenager, but I did have a wonderful mother.
Thanks in advance for any advice in regards to my 5yo daughter.

I don't know about books for girls.

In Without Spanking or Spoiling by Elizabeth Crary thate is an Exercise where you rank Children's Traits. There is a list of 24 traits. Being Polite might be important to you since you are concerned that she might grow up to be rude. However, if you put polite up at the top it might have to take the place of Generous.

My oldest is 30 and I remember doing this as a group exercise with a bunch of moms when he was a toddler. When you parent with traits in mind you can get those traits. Mine were things like helpful to others, honest, persistent, and sensitive.

You can't have it ALL. My kids aren't aggressive (competitive), flexible, passive, or popular (at least they don't care about being popular). This exercise and this book might be helpful for you.

School might not be right for your daughter, at least for now. Something to consider and you might want to go to the homeschooling discussions.
