Fair warning, this is kinda gross. And probably TMI.
So last night I was looking at my belly button, which has looked pretty awful since I gave birth. It turned a dark-ish brown inside and faded to a litghter brown anywhere else right around it where the skin was stretched out. I also still have that dark line on my belly, though it is getting lighter. I noticed a little bit of lint in my belly button, so I scratched at it with my finger nail... And a little bit of the dark brown came off with it!! WTF?!
I immediately got the rubbing alcohol and a washcloth and scrubbed off the rest of the dark brown. The line stayed, but looks a little lighter (might just be my imagination). The rest of the brown in and around my belly button - gone.
Now, I take showers every day, and I use soap and everything, I promise. I really had to scrub with a vengeance to get this stuff off. What the heck was it?! I'm kinda grossed out, but at the same time I'm relieved that my belly button no longer looks like a dark cave...

It turns brown during pregnancy because of hormones, right? I'm thinking it just hadn't sloughed off yet, and you scrubbing it got rid of the old top layer. New fresh skin underneath, ta-da! I'm going to go scrub my line now...
