Baby Cooper has arrived (Birth Story Update TMI)

Cooper Sangye arrived at 11/11 at 3:01am weighing in at 8lbs 12ounces and 21 inches.

We (I say we because I could not have done it without my birth team) labored at home for 4 1/2 days. After 2 days of on and off labor without much progression we decided to use cotton root. This is an herbal pitocin which may have helped with effacement but with a primary dose did not progress me at all. We decided not to continue with doses so I could get some rest. I did get some rest but not until experiencing 7 hours of inefficient back labor.
It wasn't until the next evening that full-blown labor began again. 17 hours after that, the back labor had completely taken over. With contractions every 3-4 minutes my back would spasm and need to be pressed, the front of my legs would also go completely weak with shooting pains and need to be rubbed, plus the normal cervical pain. All in all it was excruciating and I needed 2-3 people to help me through every contraction. After several hours without any progress past 7centienters and me begging for mercy we decided to try for one more herbal pitocin mix to get my uterus more effective. I believe this one also has some cohosh in it. At that point we agreed that if in a few hours I was not progressing then we would transfer. Well less than an hour into the herbs I started puking and my back was seized up completely. About 10 hours before Cooper was born we went to the birth center for pain relief. Thank the goddess for epidurals. It was wonderful, it pushed my cervix from 7-10 and moved little Cooper into the anterior position. I got some rest for a few hours, got off the epidural which took 1 1/2 hours to get the feeling back in my legs and pelvis then started getting contractions going again on my own. The docs and MWs thought my uterus was exhausted and that I needed pitocin, but I refused as I felt it would cause more unecessary pain and I didn't want pain meds to manage the pit for the pushing part of the journey. They were not happy about my choice but supported me none the less. Hurray I got the contractions going on my own through movement. Then I pushed him out naturally without a scratch. What a journey. In total it was 5 days of labor, some on and off and alot of on. Not once did Copper's heart rate seemed stressed and his water broke not long before we transferred. All in all DH and I are thrilled with how it all turned out. The nurses and docs and midwives took really good care of us all. I am so in love with my little man..
