Or should we wait?

If it is a good age, is there a particular type we should be considering?

My son is 7 and we're getting one this Christmas. I think it's a perfect age.

My son is also getting one for Christmas and he will be 6.75 - he's totally ready for one.

we have a microscope. it's okay. it is a cheaper microscope, so although it works - it isn't the best. i really want the eyeclops that hooks up to your TV (i think that's the name of it??). another MDC mama mentioned it awhile back and it looks awesome!

We purchased a dissection microscope this year with our learning funding. My boys are 6 and 8. They have been using a cheaper regular microscope for a while now. I LOVE this type of microscope. Other seasoned homeschoolers had recommended this type because it gets rid of the need to prepare slides. This is the perfect type to look at the things in the natural world, even using live specimans as opposed to looking at things on a cellular level. Both would be great, but I am very pleased that we went with the dissection type for this age range because it gets used A LOT!!!

This sounds great! Can you give a link to the one you love/bought?

Are you talking about this? We have one and it's awful. I definitely don't recommend them! It is incredibly hard for an adult to focus, much less a child. Looking at all of the positive reviews I'm wondering if ours was defective, though. Hmmm.

yes, that's it. i've never used it personally, but another mama on here raved about it. i looked it up & the reviews seemed very good. i'm glad you shared your experiece, as i will need to investigate it further now. i certainly don't want to buy another piece of junk. ...off to investigate.

We want to get our son one, and we've been looking at the Magiscope for him.
