Wordfilters

Thread Starter
Hi everyone,
I have a suggestion.
A few years ago, I was a member of a site with a vBulletin forum (the same software MDC uses) where there were wordfilters in place that changed the word "stuff" to "dingen" and so on and so forth.
The reason I bring this up is because I was going to suggest that MDC install wordfilters that change "husband" to "DH", "son" to "DS" and so on. What does everyone else think? Is this a good idea, or is it too much like a forced meme?

VBulletin filters don't work like that. They can only change a filtered word to "*******" They must have been using some sort of hack.

We prefer not to place things in the filter, only a couple words are in it.

i suppose if you typed them, we'd just see ******

I know that the n word is one of the words they have censored.

In any case, I don't see what would be gained (even if it were possible) by changing words like husband to dh and son to ds. If someone wants to type that, they will, right? Aside from that, I think it would really be awful for a woman who came here to talk about her husband abusing her or something and have her "husband" changed to the equivilent of "dear husband."

The "n" word. The "w" word that rhymes with the "n" word. The "n" word but with "a" at the end instead of "er"

We prefer not to place things in the censor since it can mess up regular non-offensive words.

Really the only word currently being messed up that I can think of is s******ing.

There's an offensive "w" word that rhymes with the "n" word? Huh. Add another item to the list of things I'm scared to google ...

I have no idea what word that might be either. I guess I must be sheltered.

it's a derogatory word for a "white person who is 'acting black'" . take away the n, replace it with a w.

Thanks. I have never heard that one before although I can see how it would be offensive.

That was my pastor's last name (it's German, apparently). I always thought it sad that his last name would be considered an expletive. I mean I can understand your reason for blanking it out, but still, if you happened to be a member with that last name, you'd probably feel rather insulted.

I give up. I can't figure it out. (and I'm using the "it's only 5am, I've been up with baby since 3am" excuse. ) Can I have another clue, please?

just add an s in front of the n word. It's an alternative word for snicker. Instead of ck, it has gg.

This happened when another board I know of changed software. I guess it came with some "default" words that were *'d out, but one of those words was "breast" and the board is another parenting board. So nobody could discuss breastfeeding, lol. Nor could anyone share recipes for chicken breast.

(Pats self on back) After the snickering clue, I didn't even have to use the thesaurus.
