Wordfilters - Page 2

I was on a board where the word "spoon" was changed to "thingy". When people shared a recipe, it showed that a 'tablethingy' or 'teathingy' was needed of an ingredients. Perhaps "spoon" is a bad word in some way, but I don't know in what context that would be. There were other words that were changed to "thingy". I tried to post a well known sporting goods store, but the name was changed to 'Thingys Sporting Goods".

Spooning ("thingying", lol) is a sex act; they might have been trying to block reference to it.

I never thought of spooning as a sex act - a cuddling act, maybe. Anyhow, in that case my guess is that one of the admins was being silly.

If it's a joke, then "thingy" is probably a reference to a Monty Python skit where they replace the word "sex" with "thingy" because they're all so uptight. It's pretty funny.

My parents always called cuddling with one person behind the other spooning, like two spoons laying in a drawer. It wasn't a sexual reference.

FWIW, I would not like it if filters were put into place which changed my choices of words such as "husband" or "son" or the like to web-based abbreviations. I think that would be really obnoxious.

I didn't know about the "Monty Python" skit but maybe the creators of those boards were big fans. I don't see spoon as graphic enough to replace, but that's just me. I've been on a few boards that were Proboards and they were all like that (replacing "spoon" and other words with "thingy") so I think it's a Proboards thing. Oh well, it's funny the words that get replaced sometimes.
