Hi. I have a 19 month old and I'm totally afraid of her doing a holiday wean this year. I know holiday weaning usually pertains to small babies, but I don't think my toddler will be immune to it. Last weekend we were at a family function and while playing with cousins she went hours without nursing- something she doesn't normally do- she usually nurses every 2 hours or so. We will be seeing family for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. For Thanksgiving we'll be seeing DH's side- and she has 20 cousins younger than 9 on that side! Lots of distractions. For Christmas we'll be seeing my family- and they aren't exactly supportive of breastfeeding. I'm very ok with NIP and such, but you know how when you go see your family you revert back into the submissive child stage even though you're an adult? Yeah. Happens to me- I'm just now learning how to "break" myself from their authoritative glaring eye.
Also, I'm pregnant. My supply hasn't been affected yet, but I'm only 6 weeks along. At Thanksgiving I'll be 8 weeks and at Christmas, 12.
We bedshare and we plan on doing that on our trips. At the very least I suppose she'll make up whatever she misses in the day at night.
Any recommendations? Really, I'd just like someone to say, "I can guarantee she won't holiday wean," but I know that's not possible. I'm hoping to make it through the cold/flu season with nursing.
